It's a cool environment but I think that the green thing competes too much with the image. For one it's red against green and it's confusing the eye because there's two main focuses here. That lava spewing mountain and the green thing. The green thing is very vibrant, contrasty and big and just comes off too loud. If you really want it in the painting, I'd suggest making it smaller and tone down that contrast and saturation. It would improve the depth of the painting, I think.

I hope that make sense. If this was my own painting, I would probably get rid of the green thing completely and make yet another lava mountain there, or make the green thing another color and do what I said before.
